SCP Foundation The SCP Foundation is a secret organization dedicated to the containment and study of anomalous objects and creatures.
The acronym "SCP" stands for "Special Containment Procedures" or the unofficial motto "Secure, Contain, Protect." Together, these acronyms summarize the Foundation's goals and methods of operation.
The Foundation assigns each object a specific classification (from "Safe" to "Keter" or "Thaumiel") and an identification number, such as SCP-XXX (since the 1000s, SCP-XXXX). SCP objects (in some contexts simply referred to as "SCPs" or "objects") can be various paranormal phenomena—from individual creatures (such as SCP-058) to entire locations (SCP-354)—as well as ordinary people, objects, and animals that nonetheless exhibit anomalous properties.
Each document describing an SCP object, after stating the object's security class, describes the containment procedures required for that specific object. This section of the document is mandatory and is titled "Special Containment Procedures." In addition to containment and study, the Foundation aims to protect humanity from these objects. The Foundation's goals are reflected in its motto: "Secure. Contain. Protect."
While the Foundation's goal is to protect humanity, its policy includes cruel and inhumane treatment of individuals when it is for the benefit of humanity. Therefore, SCP testing procedures allow for the use of humans in dangerous, or even obviously lethal, tests. Containment reconnaissance procedures for some objects involve human sacrifice (for example, Retrieval Protocol RP-106-N). In cases of serious containment breaches, the use of nuclear weapons against objects is permitted, which also entails human casualties.
