“CARMEN JONES was the best break I’ve ever had. But no producer ever knocked on my door.” — Dorothy Dandridge

To celebrate Black women’s artistry through music and storytelling, ARRAY partnered with LA Phil for the Rock My Soul Festival Humanities programs in November 2022. Taking over three stages in Los Angeles, we presented:

Movie Soundtrack Yoga with Lauren Spearman at The Ford Theater
A powerful performance by Meshell Ndegeocello, Grammy Award-winning musician and QUEEN SUGAR composer, at Walt Disney Concert Hall
A rare screening of CARMEN JONES (1954) with a live operatic performance by mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges at REDCAT

These curated programs honored the splendid creativity and contributions of Black women in music, film, and TV—past and present.
