Beyond the Music Jennifer Barlament
Jennifer Barlament, Executive Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, speaks to the students of Franklin Pond Chamber Music about her professional journey, from her first recorder lessons in Germany to her current leadership role in one of Atlanta's oldest and most prestigious arts institution.
In this second installment of the Beyond the Music series, hosted by pianist and celebrity Alpin Hong, Ms. Barlament begins her story in the 4th grade, when she chose to play clarinet in the school music class. Originally intending to be an engineer, she did her undergraduate studies at Emory University in Atlanta; it was here that she studied under ASO musicians Laura Ardan and Jun-Ching Lin, later citing them as the biggest musical influences in her career. Several years later she followed her artistic passions to the Eastman School of Music where she learned of the opportunities available in arts administration. Before coming back to Atlanta, she worked with the Kalamazoo Symphony and the Cleveland Orchestra.
