How to order services on Athos - In which monasteries to order services - Light a candle on Athos
Why do we light candles in church?
A candle is a sacrifice that we bring to God. In Christianity, a lit candle symbolizes Light - a great blessing given by God to man. It is very pious and spiritual to repay Him with light for light. A church candle is such a gift of Light.
Our unique project gives every Orthodox Christian the opportunity to light a candle on Athos from anywhere in the world. Athos is the earthly place of the Most Holy Theotokos. The place that the Mother of God chose, populating it with monks and creating a unique monastic state here.
We created this project so that your candle would be lit on Mount Athos. So that a prayer would be offered for you, and your sacrifice to God would be brought to the earthly lot of the Most Holy Theotokos.
Light your candle on Athos, and may this sacrifice be accepted by God!
