1810 – Mexico's War of Independence Begins:
On this day, Miguel Hidalgo, a Catholic priest, issued the Grito de Dolores, a call to arms that sparked the Mexican War of Independence against Spanish rule. This event is now commemorated as Mexico's Independence Day.

1908 – General Motors Founded:
On September 16, 1908, William C. Durant founded General Motors Corporation (GM) in Flint, Michigan. GM went on to become one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world.

1987 – Montreal Protocol Signed:
On September 16, 1987, the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer by phasing out the production of substances responsible for ozone depletion, was signed. The treaty has been widely regarded as one of the most successful environmental agreements.
