This video is for Mac users and you are shown how to save your work that you have created in Inkscape. We show you how to save in three formats - svg, png and pdf.

Inkscape is a Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) programme. It is not a bitmap editor, like GIMP, which changes the pixels that make up a photo. Vector editors allow images to be scaled without a loss of resolution.

Inkscape can convert your created image into a PNG bitmap image, at the desired resolution for example 90 dots per inch, using the export function under the file menu.
The resulting PNG file(bitmap/raster) can be used in web pages or read and modified using GIMP. It is important to note that once the image has been converted to a bitmap image, a loss of resolution can occur if the image is resized. This means the image pixilates or the outlines look like a series of steps.

You can save your Inkscape image as a PDF. Any scale can be used without loss of resolution - the lines remain smooth and the image is crisp.
We are using Inkscape Vers .48.2
