DayZ Guide - DayTime & NightTime Tips [ Xbox | PS4 | PC ] 1.05
Welcome to another DayZ Guide by yours truly! I’m here to tell you all about daytime & nighttime in DayZ. Footage used in this video was recorded on November 12th 2019 running 1.05 Xbox version of DayZ on official HardCore server.
Have you ever wondered how long does DayZ 24h cycle take in real time?
I myself have… on countless occaisions… And today is the day when we put an end to all that uncertainty. I will tell you exactly how long daytime lasts, how long nightime lasts and more… but before we get into it… just kidding… we are getting right into it! :D

In the bottom right corner you can see the real time.
Time in DayZ runs approximately 8 times faster, wich means that a full 24h cycle takes about 3 hours of real time. 3 hours, 5 minutes and 15 seconds to be exact.
DayTime = 2 hours 10 minutes
NightTime = 55 minutes
BTW by daytime I mean manageble conditions w/o using any lightsource or night vision.
If you are lucky enough to have a compass on you, checking position of the sun will allow you to roughly estimate the remaining amount of daytime. Here how it goes:
When sun is E = you have about 2h of daytime left
When sun is S/E = you have roughly 1.5h of daytime left
When sun is S = you’re have way through the day with aproximately 1h of daytime left
When sun is S/W = you probably alredy know what’s up from crickets - about 0.5h of daytime left
When sun is W it is about to go dark = you have minutes of managable daytime left - get ready!
Obviously where there is light, there is shadow and you can use those alternatively, but I do find shadows a bit more tricky and less precise, but it works.
Shadow W = 2h of daytime left
Shadow N/W = 1.5h of daytime left
Shadow N = 1h of daytime left
Shadow N/E = 0.5h of daytime left
Shadow E = minutes of daytime left
There is one last tip I can give you today… if you are struggling to get your hands on a compass… you don’t really need it. Wind direction is currently static in DayZ - clouds are always moving to the East. You can just sit tight for a bit observing the sky to find out where East is and go from there. Definitely not as convenient, but doable.
