React Native Tutorial Step 32 — Search Results Overview
Today, we want to go and add some starting "Card Swipe" functionality onto our SearchResults. Our SearchResults will be an array of users to which we will represent each user as a card in our "deck" of users.
But before we get to that, let's import some things, make things look nice, and add some constants. All, the changes will be in SearchResults.js.
So, one thing I want to leave you with. You noticed that there are some things that I just referenced you to (i.e. the tinder swipe functionality). I actually don't know that code as well as I should. It's a time vs. functionality matter. I found a module / code that works and just integrated it into my app. We need to move fast in terms of getting our functionality out.
To me, it's totally OK if you copy and paste code as long as you get the gist of how it works. As we go through the series, you'll notice that I used the tinder swipe videos as a skeleton for my own code and needs. That's programming. That's utilizing already existing knowledge to build something you envision. And, as far as I'm concerned, that's what makes you a capable developer - don't try to waste time reinventing the wheel.
When it comes to reinventing the wheel, it's even better if you use a library (I wish I found this library earlier). React Native Snap Carousel seems to do exactly what we talked about in this tutorial. So, we could have avoided all this work (but it's great learning experience, which is what you're here for). But, the next time you do something like this, just use the react native snap carousel library.
