Today, I took my new Native Slayer Kayak out into the marsh right as some bad weather was rolling in, not expecting much, but hoping for a couple of speckled trout or maybe even a redfish. The weather was rough, with constant high winds and eventually rain, and I had no idea what kind of fish would be biting in these conditions. After catching a bass and some speckled trout, I hooked into something huge—a real monster—and it pulled me all over the water, giving me the most intense fight I've ever had. This gar had to have been at least 4 feet long - the biggest fish I've caught to date! The rain made everything tougher, but also more thrilling. There’s something special about kayak fishing in the rain that makes the whole experience more raw and exciting, and although it was tough in the moment, I now look back on this trip very fondly.
