Why do bends: the greater part of artistic interpretation as a musician is variation. There are many kinds of variation: speed of play, attack of the note, but which always entices an audience…variation in pitch on a single note.
Artistic: you can bend a note down, or down and up, or hit and hold a new pitch, turning the bend into a sustained musical note. Correctly done, they are beautiful sounds, and mastery of the BEND is one of the principal characteristics of the world’s best players.
