In this tutorial, we will demonstrate how to create Wangchao Center tower located in Hangzhou, China designed by SOM. You will learn how to design complex building shapes in a quick and easy way by simply defining its boundaries in the base plane.
We will go through several mathematical components such as Range, Domain, Graph Mapper (with both Bezier and Sin curves) in order to find the best way to generate this kind of complex form. Once we create a basic shape we will focus on details such as smooth edges and creating glass facade surfaces.
The extended version of this tutorial contains some advanced techniques of creating an uneven number of glass divisions with the same dimensions on the bent surface. You will also learn how to sort a set of geometry based on their position in relation to another set of geometry. Another bonus material that you will get is revealing a common bug in Grasshopper related to Offset Curve Direction and how to fix it.
