Sprinkler under ground and roots
Digging up the ground and roots to get down to a broken sprinkler that needs replacing. Now extra-broken from an initial mistaken hit from a hatchet, followed up by lack of concern over its well-being, you can see roots have engulfed its frail leaky body. I use a wet-vac (shopvac) to suck up loosened dirt/debris. To dig, I use a shovel, hatchet, and a ground-boring tool made from 1 1/4" plumbing pipe, which has worked really well for getting into tough dirt, with roots and stones, around the aging sprinklers in such close proximity to trees and fences and the home structure.
