How to create cheap self-watering pot plant systems using plastic drink bottles.
I use a sturdy water bottle seen in this video, otherwise the pressure in the bottle will not allow it to drip, it will just collapse the bottle inwards instead.
These bottles can drip for up to 10 days if the sipping nozzle if set correctly.
I use more than one bottle in bigger pots, and I even freeze one bottle and insulate it with a tea towel and elastic bands to slow the melting and dripping process more...
If the bottle is bigger, I pierce a tiny hole in the bottom and slightly undo the cap to allow for the air to get in and to allow for it to drip into the pot.
I’m not a plant expert, just an improviser with the materials I have, but it works for me and my plants have been fine after 8 weeks away in an Australian summer with no direct sunlight on them.
