In this video, I test and review an In-Feeder Camera System kit by Wasserstein. Step-by-step assembly and testing on wild songbirds. The best feed for the widest wild bird appeal.

One of my goals when Eastern Bluebirds show up, is to find a food item that will not only nourish them when there is snow on the ground but draw them into a feeder. I found the perfect food, and it's more nutritious than mealworms. Black Soldier Fly Larvae are being used as composters just like red wiggler worms. The bonus is that the larvae are a treat for chickens with 75% more calcium than mealworms, AND Bluebirds eat them!

This feeder kit includes cameras, solar panels, and feeders. When you're not recording feeder birds, you can use the cameras for other motion-activated applications.

CRITICISM - The camera is too close to the food/bird. I've done testing in the past regarding what that distance should be. So, if camera/feeder designers are paying attention, please consider where the birds will be, and the focus distance of the cameras used and make the feeding trough so that it begins at that minimum focus distance. The Black Soldier Fly Larvae that I attracted the Bluebirds with is from Grub Terra. On Amazon these larvae had a FIVE STAR rating with more than 640 reviews. I definitely feel comfortable recommending this company and their BSFL for all of your bug-eating birds. https://amzn.to/3ZZu2q9

There are a lot of options out there, but Grub Terra gets my vote based on almost a year of testing and observations.

When It comes to black oil sunflower seeds, I can't make a claim that one company produces them any better than others, so I'd just google black oil sunflower seeds or go to your local feed store or garden center. They are preferred by a wide range of wild songbirds.
If you can't find them, here is a highly-rated Amazon seller:
With 14 thousand reviews, this company is a standout: https://amzn.to/3T68aqX

Please let me know if I forgot to mention something about this feeder system. I always try to respond to questions.

Bird Watching App by Cornell University:

I use this app on my phone, you can take a photo from your screen and submit it for bird identification. I have no affiliation with Cornell Dept. of Ornithology and have no association with the App. I personally have participated in the feeder watch for decades.

I highly recommend Project Feeder Watch!
