Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's 1995 masterpiece E. 1999 Eternal just might be my favorite rap album ever. This album dropped after the success of their 1999 debut EP Creepin On Ah Come Up, which featured their breakthrough hit "Thuggish Ruggish Bone," "Foe Tha Love of $" and a lot of people's favorite deep cut "No Surrender."
Eazy-E had passed away shortly before the release of this album.
E. 1999 Eternal caught Bone Thugs n Harmony on the cusp of realizing their full potential, as Krayzie, Layzie, Bizzy, Wish and Flesh were honing their extraordinary flows, vocal inflections, harmonies, etc, while DJ U-Neek provided the dark, g-funk with a spooky twist beats throughout this album.
E. 1999 Eternal features the singles 1st of tha Month, E. 1999, and Tha Crossroads (the original pressing of the album contains the original track Crossroad, which is different from their classic Tha Crossroads, which was a remix months later).
However, it's really the non-single album cuts that make this album so amazing. "Mo' Murda" is probably my favorite Bone Thugs track ever.
