I wish to share this issue that I encountered recently. It was related to duplicate SID of the clone OS that I received while trying to join my Hyper-V Host to the domain.
This OS was a clone of another OS which is not Domain Controller. As I had simply copied the vmdk without giving much thoughts behind it, I later received this error.

The domain join cannot be completed because the SID of the domain you attempted to join was identical to the SID of this machine

All I had to do was to simply rerun the sysprep utility with Generalize option, which I had missed initially.
