Mysterious Ghost Church Found in Czech Republic 👻
This is the St. George's Church in the small town of Luková in the Czech Republic. The congregation believed it was haunted for more than four decades. The locals refused to enter the church, and it gradually fell into disrepair. Until it was recently rescued.... by ghosts. Are you terrified of ghosts? Then this cursed chapel in a remote area of the Czech Republic is not for you. In the peaceful village of Luková, people say there are numerous spirits. For many years, the locals believed the church was cursed, leading to its ruin.
This church has indeed a unique history. The official name is Kostel svatého Jiří (St. George's Church). But it is now often referred to as the Ghost Church. Consecrated in 1352, the church has endured an exceptional amount of fires over the years. It was partially rebuilt and repaired numerous times. The first stories of the haunted church began to surface around every fire.
The final supernatural event occurred in 1968, which forced the Congregation to evacuate. During a funeral service a piece of the roof fell on the grieving family. Many visitors, who always suspected spirits, were convinced that the church was haunted. They refused to enter again.
The years that followed were not kind to the small church. In addition to the increasing degradation, nearly everything was stolen, including paintings, religious treasures, statues, the tower clock, and even the bell. The rest became victims of vandalism.
But local art student Jakub Hadrava had a brilliant idea in 2012. He came up with a unique and creepy art installation featuring life-size ghost figures sitting in the pews. They also stand and sit in front of the altar.
The figures are made of plaster. The idea is to depict ghosts of the many Germans who resided in the village before WWII. Hadrava's work was to bring attention to the abandoned structure and raise cash for its rehabilitation.
