Adult galahs (and definitely cockatoos, who are louder, presumably other Aussie parrots included:) make this constant noise, for hours on end, I finally just discovered, all by myself, as to why.
If you watch the vid, you see the cause... it hides their baby's squarks from any ears. It even relaxes the adult partner into a medetative state, in remembrance of their own childhood. This noise goes for hours and hours and hours, non-stop, every single day for a major part of summer, cockatoos do the same but much, much, much louder. So annoying but for a very good cause. Shuts hubby up as well as keeping the children out of trouble from predatory birds. Maybe it's shutting wifey up but who bets it's hubby shutting his eyes in the video there. Me!
