Shingetsu - The Moonlit Soul (Yamato Choshi)
The Buddhist term 'Shingetsu' refers to the clarity of your kokoro, or mind, body, and spirit. This is played on a 2.9 Jinashi shakuhachi that I made.
This traditional piece (Shingetsu - Yamato Choshi) was composed and played by the wandering komuso monks of the Nara area. Like the birth of this song from Nara, I believe chat it is also symbolic of a beginning. The Yamato area is the birthplace of Japan, which in 2010 celebrated its 1300th Anniversary. Shingetsu is also a song representative of true self understanding and our place in this world around us. Similar to the Shingon Buddhist meditation on the moon, Gachi-rinkan, it is symbolic of a beginning.
