James was born in Cape Town, South Africa, James George's journey into music began with a foundation rooted in church (New Apostolic Church), fostering a deep appreciation for the art. His exploration of music performance took shape after completing school in 2013. Choosing to express his lifelong passion through the trombone, James embarked on tertiary lessons in 2014 under the tutelage of Ryan Kierman at the Athlone Academy of Music, marking the start of a promising musical journey.
A pivotal chapter in James's musical narrative unfolded during his tenure with the Cape Town Philharmonic Ensembles from 2015 - 2022. James served as the Principal Trombonist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble (CPYWE) from 2015 - 2018. His musical exploration extended to a six-year tenure as the Principal Trombonist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO) from 2016 - 2022. This experience not only showcased James's trombone proficiency but also provided opportunities to perform with the prestigious Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on an ad-hoc basis from 2017 - 2023, highlighting his diverse
contributions to both wind and orchestral music.
From 2018 - 2023, James's musical horizons expanded significantly. Throughout this period he had the opportunity to perform with a diverse array of ensembles and shared the stage with local and world renowned musicians. He was also able to share his talent globally, by partaking in two international tours, leaving a lasting impact on his evolving career.
Presently, James contributes to the musical community, emphasizing education and performance. He performs as the principal trombonist of the New Apostolic Church Orchestra and holds a position as the music tutor at Christel House South Africa. Simultaneously, he engages in freelance performances, embodying his dedication to both aspects of his musical journey.
James is presently a sub-principal trombone for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and we are extremely excited that he made time to play some hymns for us!
