Hey guys, it's been a while since my last upload. This music video has taken about 2 years to finish. There are a few reasons for that, but let me start from the beginning.
First, I wanted to do this video as sort of a thematic sequel to the Run Boy Run video from a few years ago. That video was made solely because I got a new camera, a new lens, and a new cheap steady cam and wanted to make a chase scene for a song I really liked. Flash forward to 2020 when I had since gotten some more lenses, a new far more expensive gimbal, and a new drone that I was itching to use, and then Woodkid released the song Goliath and I knew I wanted to make another chase scene to use the new equipment, as well as see my improvement as a filmmaker. I also wanted to make this "sequel" a bit more bombastic then the first one so I planned the story with a bit more detail, got more than one actor this time, and through the help of my friend and producer Sara did some proper location scouting. As a small side note, when I got to the editing room, I realized we had shot an entire sequence that really didn't fit into the length of the song but wasn't able to be cut, so I tried my best to splice another Woodkid song called Volcano into the middle of Goliath to extend the video. Hopefully it doesn't feel too out of place.
Second, as far as the actual shoot goes, it was supposed to be only one day, but the scope of the project caused us to shoot a second day. The barn where we shot the fight scene in particular resulted in some unexpected fun stories, everything from haunting our electrical equipment to Jake falling halfway through the floor.
Third, this is where the 2 year wait starts to come in. My friend Phil, who did the VFX, ended up unexpectedly moving out of state right after filming, which caused a bit of a hiccup in starting work on the VFX. Then, with his new job, he wasn't allotted a whole lot of free time, so he was only able to work in small chunks at a time. So the VFX took a little longer than we expected to finish, but it was still done in early 2021.
And finally, fourth, this is where the main reason for the long wait comes into play. In early 2021, I had received the VFX from Phil, and I was working on finalizing the edit. Then, right before I was about to start work on color grading, my computer to decided to basically un-alive itself. It started running incredibly slow, and would barely run any programs. My friend Sam and I tried every thing we could, but the problem proved very difficult to fix. The other issue was that this all happened right around the time I myself was also moving out of state to get married. So my computer got put on the back burner until my next few busy months could be taken care of first. Long story short, both time and money slowed down the process of my computer getting fixed (as well as one very ineffective visit to Geek Squad), and it wasn't until just recently that I was finally able to get my computer properly looked at.
Okay, now that story time is over, I'm proud to present the culmination of an idea that started over 2 years ago. I can't thank Phil enough for taking the time out of his busy schedule to do my first ever attempt at adding VFX to a project. I also wanna give Sara and her family a huge shoutout for producing such a great location for the shoot. And last but not least, thank you to the actors for putting in the effort to bring the story to life, as well as all the work you put in behind the scenes. You all rock, and I hope you and everyone else enjoys the work we've created!
