What is tipping culture? Is that even real? This viral tiktoks debate whether or not this phenomenon is getting too far out of control

Transcript:
do you ever feel like tipping culture is getting just a little out of hand that's certainly how TikTok or another guy Jason felt after he was charged a 20 service fee at a coffee shop where he cleared his own table ordered with a QR code and had already left a tip and when he asked what the service fee was for he was told it was additional money for our staff so a tip fees like this first began popping up in 2008 after a San Francisco ordinance required many businesses to start putting money aside for employee health care costs and for Jason's part he said he would have been totally fine with that it was just a lack of transparency that he found problematic because even as vague fees like these have become ever more common a 2022 survey by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics put the number of private sector workers with access to employer-sponsored healthcare just 30 percent so you can't exactly blame people for being suspicious of course until there's an entire overhaul of the system we're all gonna have to live with the Tipping culture we have all workers deserve Fair pay and access to health care even the ones working for tips but businesses should at least be transparent about what the fees are for and make sure they're actually using them to benefit their employees
