William Gilmore Simms and Southern Meanings
Dr. Adam L. Tate, professor of history at Clayton State University in Morrow, GA, delivers the keynote at the 2023 Wigwam, the annual gathering of the William Gilmore Simms Society. In this keynote, Dr. Tate explores Simms's understanding of American nationalism in light of the revolutions of 1848. These thoughts lead Dr. Tate to exploring the breadth of Simms's thought as it relates to the complex meanings of the South, in his day and ours.
