Slavery in Siberia. The inconvenient truth of colonization
It is commonly believed that Siberia was one of the few regions of Russia where serfdom did not exist and the population was free. This supposedly explains the Siberians' wealth and unique mentality, which was unwilling to submit to anyone.
However, this is a significant exaggeration and mythologization; the reality was quite different.
