From particles to bits: The journey of information

Radiation and particle detectors allow us to observe the universe beyond our senses by transforming particles into electric signals and binary bits. As scientists develop new methods to gather more information, the demand for larger and more precise systems has exponentially increased raw data production, outpacing current data acquisition and storage capabilities. A solution is to integrate analysis algorithms directly into the data acquisition process, which reduces data volumes at the source. This approach decreases the number of data links needed, lowers power requirements, and reduces system costs.
