Welcome back to the Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) series by NetSoft IT Academy. In this episode, we take a detailed look at the Secondary Site and its role within an MECM hierarchy.

In the previous video, we explored the Primary Site, which acts as the core engine for client management. In this session, we move one level deeper and explain how a Secondary Site supports remote and branch office locations with limited or unreliable WAN connectivity.

In this video, you will learn:
• What a secondary site is and how it differs from primary and CAS
• When you should (and should not) deploy a secondary site
• How a secondary site communicates with its parent primary site
• Core components of a secondary site, including SQL Server Express, Management Point, and Distribution Point
• How data flows between clients, secondary sites, and the primary site
• Content caching, bandwidth optimization, and replication behavior
• Limitations of secondary sites, including scalability, administration, and availability
• Why secondary sites do not have their own console and how they are managed
• Best-practice recommendations and alternative designs using distribution points and management points

This video also includes a practical console walkthrough that shows how secondary sites appear in the hierarchy, how roles are managed, how content is distributed, and how replication status is monitored.

By the end of this episode, you’ll clearly understand when a secondary site makes sense, when it adds unnecessary complexity, and how to design your MECM environment efficiently.
