Learn how to add a table of contents (TOC) into your document using MS Word and Google Docs.
Before we create a Table of Contents using Google Docs or MS Word, we have to ensure that there are Headings in the document. Once your headings are added on your document you can proceed to create your TOC.
MS Word: Click on the References Tab then select the Table of Contents option. This gives you the option to automatically create a TOC. Choose your preferred style and it would then produce the TOC for you. To update your TOC if more text is added or if text is removed, simply click on the TOC and click on Update.
Google Docs: 1) Click on Insert then select Table of Contents
2) There are two options; with page number and with blue links (select the one most appropriate for use)
3) Page number will show the Headings and its page number whereas the “With Blue Link” option does not show page numbers. Instead it allows you to click on the Heading and it carries you to that particular section.
It is important to note that wherever you have the cursor placed that is where the Table of Contents will be inserted. It is best to have your Table of Contents inserted in a blank page.
