some random test pattern
each digit is about 30 cm tall.
I've used H-Bridge Motor drivers like these: https://amazon.de/dp/B077YC3JX9 / https://amazon.com/dp/B00XAGRQTO
two per digit. each segment has one pin common to all segments and two driving pins. the driving pins each have a diode. one in one direction and one the other way around. I assume it's for some kind of freewheeling thing but I just bridged them and hope it doesn't fry the h-bridge. the digits are otherwise completely stupid. each segment has an electro magnet. I send a pulse to it and it flips the segment. the segment somehow "remembers" its position by itself so most of the time it doesn't take any power.
the H-Bridges are driven by an arduino and two I²C GPIO expanders. The Arduino has an SPI Ethernet Board (W5500) connected to it and talks to our custom Home automation system
