This is a cover of Shine On by Pink Floyd. David Gilmour experimented with this technique during his 2006 On And Island tour. Later in the tour he used wine glasses instead.

Sound on Sound:
My volume pedal has 2 outputs. When the pedal is at the heel position, it outputs full volume to A and nothing to B. Toe position is the opposite. From B I have a delay pedal set up for really long delays. So I can play a chord, fade into channel B, and then that chord will be sustained for a while while I play over top of it on channel A.
