Video created and presented by Melody Owen
Artist statement:
"'Pearl Hyacinth' is creating a series of short video presentations about social virtual worlds. Each will start out as a slideshow in Second Life and then move into her other iterations.
This first chapter of the series is about the structure of the avatar itself and how it manifests differently depending on the context. Since we have a limited time frame, we have chosen to focus specifically on Second Life, Occupy White Walls, Anyland, and Sansar - with passing reference to a few other aspects of digital life and locations as they relate to the avatar.
Future chapters in the series will explore other aspects of currently existing virtual worlds. Subjects we are considering include; methods of travel; communication and friendship; creativity and building; skybox and/or map; home; low and high poly graphics; representation of animals and other aspects of the natural world; shopping and financial systems; and sound.
This travelogue is from the point of view of one lightly existing digital being who was manifested in the mind of one slightly askew artist and researcher - so, it is very much a subjective and hopefully engaging rendering of a journey across the Metaverse."
