Why Does the 20+ Year D-Lux Series Still Exist? The New Leica D-Lux 8
I've been a fan of the Leica D-Lux and Panasonic LX series for many years. I owned the Panasonic LX3, which was the sister camera to the Leica D-Lux 4 back in 2008, and I loved that camera. I reviewed the D-Lux Type 109 and took it with me to Hong Kong back in 2015, and I really enjoyed having a compact point-and-shoot with a fast zoom lens and a decent-sized sensor. However, it's now 2024. Does it make sense to have the D-Lux 8? Yes, I think it makes a lot of sense. In fact, I think more manufacturers should bring back discontinued point-and-shoot cameras, such as Fujifilm's X70 series, and Nikon's Coolpix A. The D-Lux 8 uses the same sensor and lens as the previous version, but there are just enough hardware and software upgrades to justify a new version. This is a pretty long video as I go into a bit of the history of the D-Lux / LX series for some context, as well as the pros and cons of this camera. I also go into detail about the aspect ratio modes which I don't think many reviewers talked about which makes a big difference since it affects your DNG RAW files, not just the JPEGs as some reviewers suggested.
