Diamond Certified Experts: Travel Tips to Avoid Bed Bugs
Host, Sarah Rutan: A common way that bed bugs get around is by hitching a ride with unsuspecting travelers, particularly while they’re staying at a hotel. Today we’re in Los Gatos with Diamond Certified Expert Contributor Janet Thrasher of Thrasher Termite & Pest Control to learn a few ways you can prevent this from happening.
Diamond Certified Expert Contributor, Janet Thrasher: Hi, welcome to our training center. Today I’m going to share four travel tips on what to do if you encounter bed bugs and how to avoid bringing them home.
The first tip is: when you get to your hotel room, pull up the sheets and check the mattress. You want to look along this beading here, on both the bottom and the top to make sure there’s no activity. If there’s bed bugs there, you’ll know it.
Second, store your electronic devices in a plastic bag when you’re not using them. That’ll prevent bed bugs from getting inside.
And then the next tip is to take your suitcase and store it on a hard surface. We recommend the bathroom counter, or even inside the tub. But most important, don’t unpack your clothes into the hotel dresser.
And finally, if you do find bed bugs, be sure to let the hotel management know. Any reputable company would want to know if their rooms had bed bugs or not. Thank you! Travel safely.
