Composed and performed by Gunnhildur Einarsdóttir, Matthias Engler & Armin Wieser.
Documented at MaerzMusik, Radialsystem/Berlin, March 23rd 2024.
Tapis Fou is a collaborative work made by Ensemble Adapter with Armin Wieser, inspired by a collaborative research and longterm communication with Leila Bencharnia. The piece is based on a vast collection of materials gathered during the process and explores thoughts, connections and sounds the encounter evoked. The work also draws from Ensemble Adapter's research into collaboration as an art form itself. Devised theater practises serve as inspiration, for example, where ideas evolve through collective dialogue, not only through individual thinking. Trust and respect form the foundation for this type of approach.
Tapis Fou contains the following elements:
Erik Satie: Tapisserie en fer forgé (1917) arranged by Matthias Engler
Gunnhildur Einarsdóttir: possibilities like... (2023) for harp
Armin Wieser: Interlude (2024) for voice
Matthias Engler: [indistinct chatter] (2023) for percussion
Einarsdóttir/Engler/Wieser: September 2023 – March 2024 (2024) for three voices
Ahmed Essyad: Ouverture from Le collier des ruses (1977) for tape
The project was organized by Mophradat in collaboration with Berliner Festspiele / MaerzMusik with additional support from DAAD.
Filmed and edited by Quiet City Films.
