Less Moves, More Sends 🤯

Sometimes using less holds actually makes a Climb EASIER

We most commonly see this when an available hold causes a disadvantageous body position - typically dropping one foot in order to flag and achieve better balance on your other points of contact.

One other situation that this often applies to is when there's a bad hold immediately ahead, but a good hold further beyond it. In this case, it's often easier to jump past the hold with explosive lower body movement as opposed to leveraging finger strength - although this is always dependent on the risk context and the individual climber!

You'll notice that when stronger climbers are working on grades below their limit they'll often eliminate many holds because they see possibilities that Climbers of that grade may not recognize. This is one of the reasons I try to study technique and read routes - because finding and using efficient beta is a great way to unlock climbs that otherwise would feel impossible!
