Quick Notes on Layers

I recently received a comment from one of our members about how to use layers. I realized rather quickly that layers can be a bit mystifying if you've never used them before. But once you understand the positives of multiple layers paintings, your world suddenly opens up.
The Dirty Lowdown on Layers
I remember my introduction to Photoshop back in 1997. No one actually taught me how to use the program. I just jumped into modifying pictures one day while sitting in the library computer lab. I quick learned how to use all the filters, like chalk and watercolor. I was amazed and stunned how powerful the program was.
And I did all my modifications on one single layer.
Over the years I learned how to use layers. Creating collages of images and effects allowed my creativity to soar. By now layer use is a second nature to me. But I have to keep telling myself that not everyone has been using digital photo and paint programs for as long as I have.
And so I wanted to share with you just a little bit about what layers how, and how they can be used.
Don't Be Afraid of the Layers
Remember that with digital creations, we have the ability to undo. Don't be afraid to manipulate multiple layers while you create you art. Push yourself farther than you have before, and if it doesn't work, simply undo.
We don't have layers in natural media, so if you have questions, leave a comment.
But once you have a basic understanding of layers, you'll have more fun than you know.
