Great Video Maker users rake note: An integral part of GVM's slider has been manufactured out of plastic, NOT aluminum, and may abruptly fail, potentially causing damage to your equipment, ruining shots, etc. These sliders are well made, almost entirely out of aluminum, with the exception of a few parts. The braking function of this item's camera Dolly appears to be like everything else, however, it is not as it seems. It is plastic, and after less than a year of use, has failed.
I have depended on GVM sliders up until now, and am again surprised to have this failure. The smallest part of the Dolly is the friction brake, a simple, yet crucial component that keeps tension on the sliding process, and when tightened, locks the Dolly in place on the rail.
Had this small part been made from aluminium, like the rest of the slider, this would have never happened. The fact that this integral part of GVM's slider has been manufactured out of plastic, puts this and any other similar slider Dolly from GVM at risk of a catastrophic failure, potentially causing damage to expensive equipment.
This is a cost cutting design, that should have been scrapped. As the images clearly show, this feature has a critical flaw, a plastic one, that needs to be replaced.
