Coba Ruins Mexico
Coba ruins Mexico are located about 27 miles (43 km) Northwest of Tulum in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.
The Coba ruins were built between 500 to 900 AD. At its peak, Coba is estimated to have had 50,000 inhabitants. While the Coba Ruins were discovered in the 1800's, the site was not opened for tourists until 1973 due to the vegetation and tree growth covering the area. You can still imagine what it must have been like to the discoverers based on the vegetation that is currently surrounding the site.
You have 3 choices upon your arrival at the Coba ruins. You can walk, rent a bike or hire a pedicab to get you to its most famous pyramid, Nohoch Mul. Both biking options are pretty cheap and well worth the cost in saving your energy and giving you more time to explore.
The Nohoch Mul pyramid is the 2nd largest Mayan Pyramid in Mexico. It is also one of the last few that you can actually climb. Word of warning, getting up is much easier than getting down. Most people I watched climbed down on their butts. There is a rope you can hold onto to get up and down the pyramid. The view from the top is well worth the climb.
