Fikret Amirov: лирическая (Lyrical Dance)
The eminent Azerbaijani composer Fikret Amirov (Fikrət Əmirov, 1922-84) studied at what is now the Baku Music Academy. His father was a folk musician, and folk music figures greatly in his considerable output, which included much orchestral music. Per the Wikipedia article on him, one of his pieces was used for a dance routine by the US ice skater Michelle Kwan. He also wrote an excellent set of 12 miniatures, and you can hear them, plus this piece (at the end, and on a better piano than mine) on this video: http://bit.ly/1fFNNok . In listening to this piece, one is reminded how much Borodin was influenced by Caucasian regional music in his Polovtsian Dances.
