I “Chased and Paced” Knott’s Berry Farm’s D&RGW Locomotive #340 during its second shakedown run after more than two years of rebuilding by the Durango & Silverton Railroad. Part 1 ( • Dispatch, We Have A Problem! D&RGW #340. 2... ) Knott’s Berry Farm’s Locomotive # 340 during its second shakedown run didn’t go as planned—departing Pinkerton Siding, something in the valve timing let go, forcing the crew to limp the engine back to the Hermosa MOW yard for repairs.
The video includes an explanation of the problem and repair, a rare look inside the cab as the crew reassembles the valve chest and gets # 340 ready to move again.
Part 2 ( • Dispatch, We Have A Problem! D&RGW #340 2n... ) features a tour of freshly restored Combine # 211, Hermosa departure, chase and pace sequences, the shove back to Events Park, turning the engine on the wye, and the highball back to town.
