Taiwan's Lost 8-Bit Computer
Nintendo, one of the world's largest silicon foundries, Apple, corruption, intrigue? All this and more are connected to quite possible the most important computer to come out of 1989, the Bit 79 Home Computer System isn't just a Family Computer (NES) clone, it's a full on personal computer! Equipped with a 6502, 8K of RAM (quadruple that of the standard Familcom) and BASIC built into ROM, not only can the machine play all the classic Nintendo games from their first major console, but it can also do your taxes.
The Bit 79 was the first computer to treat the Family Computer's architecture like that of a standard home computer. Going even beyond Nintendo's Family BASIC. Designed and distributed by Bit Corporation, who tragically came to their end too soon, the Bit 79 is a fascinating piece of Family Computer clone and 8-bit computing history.
