Savitribai Phule was a teacher, poet and social reformer who changed the face of education for girls in India. Along with her husband Jyotirao Phule, she founded one of the first modern schools for girls in Pune in 1848. She faced a lot of opposition and harassment from the conservative society, but she did not give up on her mission. She also worked for the upliftment of the oppressed classes and women’s rights.
