One of the iconic flight sims from Digital Integration released back in 1996 for DOS. With the Hind released for DCS recently, lets look back 25 years and see what flight sims enthusiasts were hyping about back in the day.
It was built on the same engine that was used for Longbow Apache released one year prior. This time the devs decided to model Soviet gunship that used completely different tactics compared to his american foe. While you would fly low and relatively slow near your engagement zone in Apache, in the Hind you will behave more like WW2 era Il-2 Sturmovik attacking ground targets with devastating firepower, which in this case was extended from simple ungided rockets and homing missiles known from LA to gunpods, several different kind of bombs, to mine laying dispensers. On top of that you may be tasked with troop insertion or extraction since infantry units were introduced with this sim.
There are several training missions (Russia, near Saratov), 3 campaigns (Kazakhstan, Korea and Afghanistan) and even multiplayer mode which lets you fly against your friend in his Apache (it can connect with previous game).
The game had few releases, first one from 1996 (depicted here), in 1998 DI re-released both Longbow Apache and Hind built on updated engine used in F-16 Fighting Falcon. It featured textured land and sky and supported first 3dfx graphics accelerated cards. All 3 games were also released in single pack known as "Front Line Fighters".
