Letters from the Front. A letter from Sonya Gruzdeva to her husband — read by Liliya Abramova
Sofia Ivanovna Gruzdeva was the wife of Alexander Gruzdev, a Soviet literary scholar and educator. When her husband went to the front, Sofia found work on a collective farm, leaving her previous teaching job behind. In 1943, she was appointed director of a school in Kirov. This news outraged Alexander Gruzdev (he believed that working on the collective farm meant Sofia was doing more for the front). In 1944, Sofia's husband was seriously wounded in the leg, underwent amputation, and soon returned home from the hospital to his wife and daughter, Natasha.
