A week or so ago, I attempted to play the US version of City Crisis on the PS3, with some issues.
Today, I'm playing the Japanese version of City Crisis on the PS2, with no issues outside of the fact that I suck at this game. I more or less went in expecting the same game as the US version but in Japanese, but all of the voices are different... and it makes for a far more unusual experience because of it. Oh and the loading screens are very much different from the US version.
I don't have too much to say that I didn't say in the PS3 video about this game, but there's a few things I'd like to note.
First and foremost, the way the world rendering is handled in this version is different. This version features world culling by way of a fog-like effect, which seemingly helps in preserving the frame rate - or it would, if attempting to render two different portions of the world at the same time didn't tank the frame rate anyways. The US (and presumably European) version doesn't bother with that, so you get to see more of the world at the cost of frame rate...?
Something that actually affects gameplay in a slightly intrinsic way is that rather than the icons that the US version uses, the Japanese version actually says if someone needs help or if they're dead. This version is very slightly more text-heavy because of it, but to be honest, it's just something to note rather than something that changes the game.
Outside of that, all I can note is a different RenderWare logo that matches the one on the back cover, but otherwise, I have nothing else to say. Enjoy me failing at this game because I'm not used to this game's weird joystick controls.
