The Elusive Honey Bee Queen
https://beeaugustine.com Local honey from St. Augustine starts with healthy and present honey bee queens. This is a video of us inspecting our Golf hive, finding a missing queen in one of the supers, and placing her back in the deep box.
We recently ran a heat treatment on this hive to help prevent varroa mites and during the process, the queen exited the hive through the insulation board. When we put the hive back together she was now residing in the super without us catching it. We did not find the queen during the next inspection, which led us to look in the supers for signs of her laying up there and sure enough ... The Queen!
We caught her in a plastic queen clip and returned her to the deep box. In the video is pretty clear that we thought she had escaped once again! Thanks, Go Pro for helping us catch this crazy footage.
