Should You Just Try Harder?

You may have heard, "Just try harder, and you’ll do better."

Is that the case?

Well, after six years of working with people just like you, I know that nobody works harder than you do.

The problem is that your hard work isn’t working for you.

Here's why working harder isn't solving all of your problems:

#1 The neuroscience of change doesn't support it.
If you keep doing what you are doing--harder, you are going to keep getting similar results. Science shows that 90% of your activities are the same today as they were yesterday. You don't need to just try harder; you may run the risk of getting more of the same. Do something different to create new avenues for growth and change.

#2 Your openness to ideas may hold you back.
Let's face it. You are more open to ideas than most people. This is good for creativity and thinking outside the box. However, being open to new inputs also makes you more vulnerable to distractions. If you just try harder, you may find yourself exhausted and dispersed in a million directions...still looking back wondering why you are not getting results.

#3 You may exhaust your energy on the wrong activities.
We've already established that you are working very hard, but your hard work isn't working for you. If you are exhausted and not getting results, you may be working hard on the wrong things. Remember, it's not about checking off your list. It's all about having the right list.

Don’t let the lie that you need to "just work harder" seep into your head.
