J-Bay Comes to Portugal, With Leo Fioravanti
As mentioned, Europe has spent the last week or so going on an end-of-winter North Atlantic swell bender. Also as mentioned, this particular swell bender did not feature Nazare as its XXL show-stopper due mostly to bad winds. Of course Portugal's craggy, 1,000-plus-mile coastline is way more than Nazare, with literally hundreds of amazing waves facing all kinds of different directions. Some fun, high performance pointbreaks. Some barreling beachbreaks. (Here's looking at you, Supertubos.)
And yes: some seriously slabby reefbreaks, as evidenced above, where Leo Fioravanti snagged the wave of the day during a thumping session that saw a mixture of carnage and glory.
"This day in Portugal was so fun," Leo said. "It was so clean, offshore and perfect size! And that wave just never ended...it kept going and going. At the end, I thought I blew it by staying in it for so long, but it paid off!"
Clearly.
