In Norse mythology, elves, or "álfar" in Old Norse, are mystical beings associated with light, nature, and magic. They inhabit hidden realms and enchanted forests. There are light elves (Ljósálfar) connected to light and day, and dark elves (Dökkálfar) often associated with subterranean realms. Unlike modern fantasy, Norse elves were ethereal, supernatural entities intertwined with nature.
