The real problem lies in the accumulation of biomass: our forests are full of fuel because large herbivores and extensive livestock farming have disappeared.
The solution is not more firebreaks or more brigades, but rather restoring the ecological role of herbivores: either through extensive livestock farming or rewilding projects that include bison, horses, fighting bulls, and feral donkeys.
Spain, with almost 85% of its land area in hunting reserves, has a unique opportunity to lead this change.
