They highlight the lives of great figures so that others may emulate them.
And is there any human being greater than our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), whose life is studied in such detail?
Through studying the Prophet's biography, we emulate him (peace and blessings be upon him); for how can one emulate him without studying his life?
Through it, hearts become connected to him, increasing our faith and love for him.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his father, his son, and all of mankind.” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
Through it, we understand many verses of the Quran; many verses were revealed concerning events in the Prophet's biography, such as the account of the Battle of Badr in Surah Al-Anfal and the Battle of Banu Nadir in Surah Al-Hashr.
The Prophet's biography is also replete with legal rulings and educational lessons, which serve as a guiding light in raising the children of the Muslim community.
The Prophet's biography is a practical application of the religion of Islam. By studying the Prophet's biography (Seerah), Muslims guard against extremism and deviation in understanding the texts of the Quran and the religion of Islam in general.
Studying the Prophet's biography cultivates a spirit of pride and dignity within the Muslim community.
One of the early Muslims said: "My father used to teach us the battles of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) and recount them to us, saying, 'My sons, these are the glorious deeds of your forefathers; do not let their memory be forgotten.'"
Through studying the Prophet's biography, we become aware of the cunning of our enemies, because events often resemble one another. As it is said, "Infer what has not yet happened from what has already happened, for things are similar."
Whoever wishes to study the Prophet's biography should begin with a concise book that provides an overview of the events and their sequence, such as "The Sealed Nectar" by al-Mubarakfuri.
Then, they can move on to more comprehensive books, such as "The Prophetic Biography" by Ibn Hisham and "The Prophetic Biography" by Ibn Kathir.
They should also pay attention to books that analyze events and extract rulings, lessons, and insights, such as "Provisions for the Hereafter" by Ibn al-Qayyim. Then he studies each incident individually, gathering information about it from all available sources, with some leniency regarding its chains of transmission, unless it contains something objectionable or contradicts established facts.
Ibn Sayyid al-Nas said: “Many scholars have adopted the view of leniency regarding matters of spiritual refinement, and those accounts of battles and similar events that do not carry legal weight, accepting from them what is not acceptable in matters of halal and haram.”
He should beware of what Orientalists and those who follow innovations and misguidance have written about the Prophet’s biography and other matters, for they incite discord and sow doubts. God has warned against them and those like them, saying: “And thus do We explain the verses, and that the way of the criminals may become evident.”
